FAQ: Placement of nannies, family managers, and household staff

In Germany, a nanny typically costs between €18 and €30 gross per hour. The exact hourly rate depends on qualifications, experience, scope of duties, and location.
The process begins with a personal consultation by phone or video call, during which we learn about your family situation and your requirements. Based on a tailored search profile, we then begin the search: we publish an anonymous job listing and match your criteria with candidates from our database as well as with nannies in our network.
You will usually receive the first nanny profiles within a few days. The overall placement timeline depends on your search criteria and, depending on the complexity, can take up to 12 weeks or longer. Our 15 years of experience and extensive database help us identify suitable nannies quickly.
Yes, N4YK nanny4yourkid manages the entire process — from the initial contact to interviews and trial days. You can focus entirely on making your selection while we take care of the rest.
When you commission N4YK nanny4yourkid, a processing fee of €535.50 is charged. This amount is fully credited toward the final fee if the placement is successful. The agency’s placement fee is a one-time charge of 18% of the placed candidate’s gross annual salary.
The nanny4yourkid service includes personal consultation, scheduling support, vetted candidate profiles, detailed exposés, checklists, a sample employment contract, training opportunities for candidates, and a 3‑month replacement guarantee.
Yes, we provide sample employment contracts and advise you on all organizational matters related to hiring your nanny or family manager. In most cases, the family’s tax advisor handles the official registration. Alternatively, upon request, our partner quitt can take care of the registration, management, and payroll for your nanny or household staff.
If it becomes clear within the first three months that the arrangement isn’t a good fit, we offer a free replacement — provided the original search profile remains unchanged.
Ideally, a nanny should have formal training in childcare, a current pediatric first-aid certificate, experience in caring for children, and strong references.
Yes, nannies are subject to social security contributions. As an employer, you or your tax advisor must register the employee with the relevant health insurance provider with the next payroll. This registration must be completed no later than six weeks after the start of employment. Alternatively, our partner quitt (https://go-quitt.de/n4yk/) can handle registration, management, and payroll for your nanny or household staff on your behalf.
Full-time nannies typically work 30 to 40 hours per week. Part-time arrangements or flexible shift schedules are also possible, depending on the family’s needs.
Typical tasks include childcare, transporting children to and from daycare, preparing meals, organizing leisure activities, and light household duties related to the children.
A nanny is responsible only for tasks related to the children. If you need more support with general household duties, nanny4yourkid can help you find a suitable family manager or housekeeper.
Yes, many families take their nanny along on trips. It’s important, however, to discuss this in advance and arrange separate compensation.
